hello,

Michael Tam has done an awesome job of creating and uploading this
demo vcd which is both, a demonstration of Video CD PBC features and a
tutorial/intro on how this can be all be achieved with GNU VCDImager!

Read Me - PAL/NTSC Demo Video-CD disc
=====================================
26-Jun-2001

This VCD is a demonstration of the VCD authoring capabilites of
GNU VCDImager. There are also a few short tutorials and screens of
information pertaining not only to VCDImager, but VCD in general.

To play this VCD on a stand-alone DVD or VCD player, the disc image
must firstly be recorded onto a CD-R or CD-RW disc. This image
is in the CUE/BIN format and can be written with CDRDAO (Linux)
or CDR-Win (Windows) or Fireburner (Windows). CDR-Win and
Fireburner are commercial software but demos are available from
their respective websites.

You can test out this VCD on your PC without first recording it onto
a CD. If you install Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.com) you
can mount the disc image as a virtual CD on your PC. Then, with the
appropriate software (e.g., software VCD or DVD player) you can test
the disc. It should be noted that few software players take
advantage of high resolution MPEG stills (used in the menus and
still screens).

A few important issues:
- all stand-alone VCD players should be able to read CD-R media
- few stand-alone VCD players will read CD-RW well

- many DVD players do not play CD-R or CD-RW media well
- for these players CD-RW media often works better
- some DVD players are specifically engineered with the capability
to play back CD-R and CD-RW media (check your manual)
- these players should have no difficult reading either

Remember, always check http://www.hvrlab.org/~hvr/vcdimager/ for the latest
version of GNU VCDImager.

Addendum:
=========
The "Entrypoints" section under "VCD Authoring - Complex" was authored
in a way that is "atypical" for a chaptered VCD. Usually, a "playlist"
will be used for each entrypoint rather than a "selection" item.

Unfortunately, on further testing, the existing authored structure does
not play in the manner desired on some stand-alone players. This has
been noted and will be corrected in the next release of the demo disc.

A few typographic errors have also been noted.
