If I understand the poster's intention's correctly then I agree:  In fields
which require a date, it would be much better to pre-fill the field with today's
date, formatted according to the rules set in system preferences.

I'm changing the component to Acquisitions because that's the best example I can
think of (the date accessioned value in adding items) and I'm reassigning to
Paul because Pat is MIA.
