Precisely. In the Polish Free and Open Source Software Foundation we 
are thinking of running a (paid-for by the users) service that would 
integrate the many different communication and cloud-based platforms 
that are Free Software, including:
 - StatusNet
 - Diaspora
 - ownCloud
 - e-mail
 - Mozilla Sync
 - OpenId
...and some more. We have a preliminary testing server set up. It 
seems doable and viable.

I believe that's the best way to get people off of vendor lock-ins in 
the cloud (like Google) and to something that would allow them to move 
between the servers and providers.
