Because we can do it in a backwards compatible non-regressing fashion (per my
patch); because otherwise we would have to redefine AC_PROG_EGREP and
AC_PROG_FGREP in libtool; because this is a general AIX problem best solved in
Autoconf for non-libtool users to benefit from.

Note also the horrendous problems we've had with moving AC_DEFUNS from
libtool.m4 to autoconf in the past... best not to put them in libtool.m4 at
all!  I'm chasing AC_PROG_SED in another thread :-)
