No, I didn't find any compiler that does not use %g2-%g4 as caller-save registers just like %g1.
OTOH, even if it is, that's arguably not too much of an issue since all
this will vanish is the next release.
Not if %g2-%g4 are used to host R0-R2, actually.
I didn't understand if you would need to add something like "move %g0,
%l0" to the prolog?

Yes (rather `mov %g0, %l7').
Or mov %i6, %l7.
