Yes, that is the problem.  Though as long as the SIMD width (e.g. 8/16 
bytes) is told to the user with a macro, rather than hardcoded it should 
be possible to make the basic ones relatively portable.  The problem is 
more fancy instructions like pack/unpack, which differ the most.
