It's a bug, not an enhancement request. It's a low-priority bug, because
there's an easy workaround if you know it's there. Maybe the search
results page could explain what's going on more explicitly?
For instance, it currently says something like: About 138 results (0.39
seconds)
Could it maybe say something like: About 138 results for Version 2.17. If
you want a different version, change the number in the site: specification
in the search box.
Even having it default to the stable version instead of the development
version would be an improvement, since in general we assume that people
using the development version have made a deliberate choice to do so.
