Karol,
that's funny because I'm starting to think that my way is probably doomed,
and I actually like your point about user-flexibility regarding the
spacing-increment value. In my above comment #4 attached image (3887.png),
second example, the space to the right of the lower quintuplet is in
reality slightly too large -- it is the space after the upper beam group
(c8. c16) that should be that size, and I can't think of a trivial and
generic way of calculating that on-the-fly, using my approach. The
difference is miniscule and negligible in this example, but as a
proof-of-concept, I think my demonstration falls short.
Furthermore, the more I play around with this, the more I realize how
deficient my understanding of the spacing engine is.
I'm going to leave this as it is; I consider it a bug now. Hopefully
someone else who understands this better will resolve the issue.
