Well, with this patch we reach the theoretical optimum of subsetted musicfonts. There is exactly one subset for emmentaler-20 in notation.pdf, not 8 as with the old code. The scm code is simplified. The same algorithm might be used on additional fonts, further improving our pdfs.

I think we should remove the use of three encodings/subsets of emmentaler fonts from our postscript code and use CID versions of the emmentaler fonts combined with the Identity-H CMap instead.

Attached is a patch that implements (and uses) this enhancement:

Only a proof of concept, not ready for release, definitely not for lilypond 2.20.
