etf2ly crashes on me

A friend who transcribes Renaissance music without barlines in Finale sent me
some of his etf files. They all crash etf2ly. (I'm guessing it's the
lack of barlines that is the significant difference between these
files and the ones that produce lilypond output.)
The error message is:
