address@hidden book]$ kpsewhich feta16.pk
/var/lib/texmf/pk/ljfour/feta16.600pk

which is the wrong answer.

Thanks, that does seem to work.

Can I stop this? I really need to be running both 1.4 and 1.5 these
days.

I suppose I have to run the 1.5 clean-fonts in order to run 1.4 and
the 1.4 clean-fonts to run 1.5? And it looks like I have to run
clean-fonts as root, because when I run it as stable, I get a lot of
messages like:

rm: cannot unlink `/var/lib/texmf/pk/ljfour/parmesan23.600pk': Operation not
permitted

And in any case, I have to either run it every time I use lilypond, or
remember whether the last time I ran it I was doing a book that hasn't
been converted yet or not? This seems unreasonable.

I can change the setup if it will work better. At the moment, 1.5 is
installed, from the cvs directory by make install, into /usr/local,
and 1.4 installed, by make install from the
~stable/src/lilypond/... directory into ~stable/usr/. I don't think
I'm doing anything special to tell it where to put the pk files in
either case.
