I have included the line
update -d
in my ~/.cvsrc to avoid these problems.

Try cvs update -d once in a while ;-)


Now why doesn't cvs update automatically do -d?  I can think of _some_
circumstances in which you wouldn't want to create new directories, but...
oh well.  It's fixed now.
