No, it hasn't.  In the example code I've sent to you the first stem is
still too long (see attachment and the modified

BTW, doesn't look nice IMHO.  Perhaps a three-step
shortening (or even a linear one) provides better results.  I must
admit that I haven't checked the literature whether my feelings are
right or wrong...
