pdf doesn't make ps first

Subject: pdf doesn't make ps first

Lilypond fails to create pdf, but if I create a ps first, (lilypond --ps, it works. Should lilypond --pdf call lilypond --ps (or --dvi) first?

OSX, recent CVS.
