This should be a symlink:

    09:42:47 address@hidden:~/lily
    $ ls -l share/lilypond/ly
    lrwxrwxrwx  1 janneke janneke 21 2004-10-17 14:05 share/lilypond/ly -> 
/home/janneke/lily/ly/

No, but you may want to find out why the symlink didn't work.
