The lists don't show accented characters by themselves, they just
distribute emails.  However, the archives of gnu.org mailing lists are
still generated by an outdated and bogus version of Mhonarc, and we
haven't been able to reach anybody to fix this.  This is why Valentin
recommended you to create a Nabble interface to your new list, in order
to generate archives viewable with a Web browser in a correct format.

For the French list lilypond-user-fr, I wrote the description using HTML
entities for accented characters.
