I am not an expert on how much room should be in there - I leave it
to someone else to fiddle with the magic numbers in note-
collision.cc to get it right. I opted for a little space, but it
could be "just touching" as well.
Looking quickly into a Edition Peters BWV 1034, Andante, m. 30, there
is more (vertical) crossing of the lines (A and C); the distance
between the left sides of the stems is about 1/4 of the horizontal
size of a notehead (but the stems are thinner). In m. 54, the note (E)
of the upper line is tied to another later note, so putting the
notehead (G) of the lower line in this position would have made its
stem crossing the tie. Then it is put on the other side, going in
about 1/2 of horizontal notehead size.
