I also noticed a slower documentation build with ghostscript's new PDF
engine, but not as extreme. Please file a GS bug report. There is
already
https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=705534
but the reporter wasn't able to provide something useful, so I guess a
new issue is best.
