With the present approach, you can not simply add a space at
the end (or front?!) of the syllabe, can you? ;) And any
more elaborate (La)TeX construct can easily ruin it much
worse.  But you can try things like ~, $$, $\;$, \quad,
\rule{2cm}{0pt}, \hskip1in and whatnot, with appropriately
doubled backslashes, of course!
