dvips Problem, Round III

Bleh, at no point did I notice that fink installed 1.6.9. I upgraded,  
then, by looking into its unstable tree. Now I have 1.7.17 (I checked  
through --version) -- but where's 1.8? Regardless, the error's still  
there, although the nonverbose version reads a teensy bit better.
