So, why not renaming your test.ly to something very unique,
OramTest9879878.ly, for instance.

I can reproduce Will's test.ly output (version notification, "Now
processing test.ly", "Parsing..." and then finito, new prompt) by making
test.ly an empty file.
Is it correct that unless you specify -I options lily searches the source
file only in the current working directory and in $LILYPONDPREFIX/ly?
There is no file with name test.ly in the $LILYPONDPREFIX/ly on my
machine.
