Wait a second,
truthfully all the applications are pretty much notation programs, not
composition programs.
Lilypond is music engraving with all the bells and whistles minus the
graphical interface.
It takes some getting used to and could be a bit difficult for a novice
to use if the notation is complex.
There are graphical frontends to lilypond but they aren't much use if
you havent learned the language.
If you are a touch typest and are willing to learn vim or emacs you can
get very quick at notating.
The only way you will know if it is for you is to try it.
one good point is that is will work on most platforms.
Once you disk space issue is resolved try Cygwin and install lilypond.
And join the mailing list which is just top notch.
