Hmm... did you try using analysis brackets? If you tweak the
bracket-flare option, you might be able to get something that's closer
to what you want
than a slur.
For details about tweaking that option, see chapter 9 Changing defaults.
- is there a way to put the analysis brackets below and above the
notes (depending on the situation). The Ligature Brackets may be a
workaround for this, but they have a slightly different shape.
Depends what you mean by "depending on the situation" -- you can
manually
specify the direction.
