Jay,
The special characters show up fine in both the Windows Native, and Cygwin
build of 2.6.0. Have you saved your files in UTF-8 format? Even if you use
convert-ly like Mats suggested, you still need to go trough and manually
convert each "Tr\\'{e}s" to Très when going from 2.4.0 to 2.6.0.
If you've done all that, and you still get no characters, perhaps the font you
are using does not contain those special characters.
