I don't think so. It seems to be a problem with inkscape itself. for
instance, firefox 1.5 shows the correct glyph for this code:
<html>
<font face="emmentaler"></font>
</html>
and I was able to use the emmentaler font with gimp.
inkscape develpers think that it has to do with the way inkscape deals
with glyphs in Private Use Area:
