Other people are also discussing this problem on lily-devel. The problem
is in guile 1.6.8:
 - guile 1.8 is the prefered version;
 - guile 1.6.7 still works, some functions and behaviours new in 1.8
 are stubbed;
 - guile 1.6.8 has the problem you notice.
