timidity plays back music an octave higher than scored

Hi,

The subject line says it all...I've scored up a piece of music for bass 
guitar, and everything looks fine on the staff; when I play it back in 
timidity, the piece is transposed an octave higher that it should be.

Is there a simple fix for this, or has anyone encountered this before?
