Hi Cameron,

1) What does LilyPond do well?

(I already have that the default output is far better than the
equivalent in most software I've seen, and it is very quick once the
basics are mastered. I'll also mention the integration with
OpenOffice, HTML and LaTeX.)

Difficult modern concepts are much easier in Lilypond than the others, e.g.

    polymetric notation

    Schenker graphing:

    feathered beams:

Helpful annotations can be inserted, most automatically:

    conducting beat patterns

    "modern" time signatures

    tuplet note inclusion

    tablature, etc.:

    shape notes:

    figured bass:

2) What doesn't it do as well?

Make money for the owners? ;-)

No, seriously…

(Lily is very difficult to use at first).

That's the only thing I can think of, along with the obvious lack of "mouse-controlled editing".

Any other suggestions?

I'd also appreciate it if anyone had files I could use that show off
some of the more interesting features of LilyPond.

The LSR is packed with "dog-and-pony" options.

Good luck!
