that's perfect. thankyou very much.

might it make sense to put that on the http://lilypond.org/web/devel/participating/ page? that page also mentions that patches should be cooked with 'diff -u' but at the bottom of the page it tells us to use git-format- patch. i also remember a discussion not so long ago about this topic. is there any big difference between 'diff -u' and 'git format-patch'?
