See my comment about the section on full measure rests. It explains the following:

\new Staff<<
{
\override MultiMeasureRest #'staff-position = #0
\clef "treble"
\time 4/4
R1 |
\override MultiMeasureRest #'staff-position = #5
R1 |
\override MultiMeasureRest #'staff-position = #-5
R1 |
}

Maybe I'm not seeing it. Can you explain it to me? I understand how to set the vertical position of a rest, and I understand how to create a full measure rest. But I don't see how to do both at the same time. a4\REST doesn't work.

you can set a 'note name' to a rest to position it vertically on the stave.

In polyphonic music, how would one go about explicitly setting the height of a full measure rest?
