No, i don't think so.

I think the example was meant to be read in this way:

\new Staff {
  <<
    \new Voice {
        \voiceOne e'2 c'' e'' g'
      }
    \new Voice {
        \voiceTwo c'2 a' b' e'
      }
  >>
}

Nils, maybe its "voice overlapping"? I've just stumbled upon this term
mentioned in this Wikipedia article:
