I've looked at the diagram and have found the following things that I would
like to mention:

The top hole should be a hole on both bassoon and contrabassoon. The top
hole very often has a half hole, and some players even use quarter and
three-quarter holes for the top hole.
OK, that's easy, it's now a hole with 1q, 1h and 3q ability available.

The third hole on the right hand, above the three keys that make a
"triangle", may be an oval rather than a circle. This is because it is
really a key and not a hole.
OK, made it oval, this "key" is now changed to a regular "trill-type" key, it therefore lost the ability to open/close it for 1q, 1h or 3q.

B.t.w. changing shapes takes more time. Didn't attempt yet. But please let us know if this is really an oval or a circular form, etc.

I have a fingering chart from my bassoon professor in his book; I can scan
it and put a link to it here so that the shapes of the keys can also be
noted; it is a little difficult to read the diagram in LilyPond for bassoon,
to be truthful, if one is used to the standard fingering chart layout. I'll
ask for his permission and I'll upload it here if he says yes.
Would love to see that. Hope he gives permission. Please let us know what reads difficult and what we can do about that.

OK, I assume you are daring enough to attempt the "under the hood" hacking......, this is an easy one. Three files attached, one code-file, test-file and sample output.

First: I tested this with versions 2.16.0 and 2.17.4-1 and both work OK, 2.16.2 should also do because nothing changed there, but I didn't test it seperately. Beyond these versions you're currently on your own (but you can always email:-).

Second: Be sure what you do underneath, always save a backup-copy of any file you are going to replace so you are always able to roll back at any time. And know what you did! Otherwise you might screw your LP installation.

Third: The hack: As Mike already told you: search for your scheme-files directory. This depends on the operating system you run on, and if you run multiple versions note that each version has its own directory. Once found, first make that backup of the file "display-woodwind-diagrams.scm". Second, place the attached file there instead. Third, test it. Fourth, if this is what you need (and you're convinced the current behaviour is wrong), please file a bug specifying it and describing what is needed, etc. Attaching the diagram sure would help (as I'm not a bassoonist). And be aware that (as in the clarinet-family) there are probably variations in brands/models. If that is the case please mention that, we should keep the diagrams as generic as possible (or document it very good).
