1. Is there a different input I can use to get the desired automatic behaviour?
2. How much [time/$$] would it take to implement a setting (on all grobs) which
specifies the direction(s) in which that grob can slide to avoid collision?

That’s a nice tweak, but I’m hoping for a more general and automatic
setting/behaviour.
