David, the problem is caused by including "gregorian.ly". This
seriously messes with the horizontal spacing because it expects
to be typesetting ligatures - see

There are two ways round the problem. If all you want from
gregorian.ly are the \divisioMinima etc these are best copied
out from the section in the Notation Reference that deals with
chants and psalms.

Alternatively, if you intend using other things from gregorian.ly
you can restore the horizontal spacing by an override at the
start of your score:
\override Score.SpacingSpanner.packed-spacing = ##f
