My output (2.19.16) looks exactly the same as yours. The original score
has more horizontal beams (as in the attachment) and then the visual
impression (at least mine) is guided by the stem spacing.
If I connect all beams via [ ] then the optical spacing is applied over
the whole beam group (=measure) (second example in the attachment).

In a printed score (Boosey & Hawkes), all four beams follow one line
with a very slight slope and the stems are spaced equally (as in my
second example but with gaps between the beamed groups).
