Hi David,

for your use-case the thread Pierre linked is likely best you can do.

Though, for the record, you can exclude to repeat TextSpanner's text
after line-break. Compare:

\relative {
  \override TextSpanner.bound-details.left.text = "accelerando"
  c''1\startTextSpan \break c c\stopTextSpan
}

\relative {
  \override TextSpanner.bound-details.left.text = "accelerando"
  \override TextSpanner.bound-details.left-broken.text = ##f
  c''1\startTextSpan \break c c\stopTextSpan
}
