Hi folks

I'm puzzled by this error. What I'm doing wrong?

[tmp]$ mkdir pdf
[tmp]$ cat
\version "2.18.2"

{ c1 }

[tmp]$ ls pdf
[tmp]$ lilypond --output=pdf
GNU LilyPond 2.19.81
Changing working directory to: `pdf'
Processing `'

[tmp]$ ls -l pdf

Why it's changing working directory to pdf before running

The documentation in Usage 1,2 is pretty clear:

-o, --output=FILE or FOLDER

Set the default output file to FILE or, if a folder with that name exists, direct the output to FOLDER, taking the file name from the input file. The appropriate suffix will be added (e.g. .pdf for pdf) in both cases.
