I think I will go with your suggestion as it does not seem Lilypond is 
capable of natively doing Analysis above the line.

It is a bit above my head to get involved in extensions, but how do I 
call this function you list in your post from a Lilypond file ?

Is there any example of a Lilypond file which calls this function ?

For reference the function is here
