Kieren, I thought that "I tried creating Lilypond files with just the lyrics, aligned to the beats of the melody, and the percussion staff in it" was specific enough, but perhaps showing a (mock up) screen shot of what I wanted would have made things even clearer.

Eventually, I ended up using Kieren's suggestion because of the layout (although Leo's might have been adaptable, as well, but the other one worked out of the box).
This is, again, a testament of how flexible Lilypond is, and can be adapted to many needs!
