Oh...it's really easy: instead of

    wxWindowList::compatibility_iterator node;
        (node = GetChildren().GetFirst()
        ;node = node->GetNext()
        wxWindow* w = node->GetData();

just write

        (wxWindowList::const_iterator node = GetChildren().begin()
        ;node                             != GetChildren().end()
        wxWindow* w = *node;
