I just installed lout-mode this evening. "M-x lout-mode" itself
appears to work fine, but when I type
emacs foo.lout
on the command line, Emacs gives this complaint in the minibuffer:
File mode specification error: wrong-type-argument-stringp
("\\.lout\\'" . lout-mode)
I suspect that what my Emacs doesn't like are the following lines in
my .emacs file:
(setq auto-mode-alist
(append '((("\\.lout\\'" . lout-mode))) auto-mode-alist))
Bear in mind that this is the assessment of someone who doesn't know
Lisp and is sort of half-deciphering what is going on. BTW, these
lines were added to the .emacs file according to the installation
instructions for lout-mode.
My version of GNU Emacs is 20.2.
