ADMINISTRIVIA: Posting to the list from multiple addresses

As you have probably noticed, the mailing list engine is configured to
accept postings only from addresses subscribed to the list - this is done
to prevent spammers from spreading their junk via the list.

If you are posting from the address that is not subscribed to the list
you can still set Reply-To: header to the address that is subscribed and
your message will be allowed. However, this still may be inconvenient to
you for whatever reasons.

So at Greg Woods suggestion I have implemented a "shadow" list that you
can subscribe to with as many alternative addresses as necessary in order
to post from this alternative addresses to the list and still receive
list postings at one address only.

The scheme works as follows.

. You subscribe to the "main" list as usually, say as <address@hidden>.
You will have postings delivered to the above address. Of course,
since you are reading this, you are already subscribed ;-).

. You are allowed to post to the <address@hidden> from the address that
is subscribed to the list, ie <address@hidden> in this example.
Postings from other addresses will be allowed as well if they have

      Reply-To: <address@hidden>

. If you want to post from another address and don't want to remember to
add the Reply-To, you can subscribe that other address to the shadow
list by sending usual subscription request to

      <address@hidden>

You can repeat this step for all the alternative addresses you have.
E.g. you can subscribe to the shadow list from <address@hidden>.

. After you have subscribed your alternative addresses to the shadow list
you can post to the *main* list from any of them. Subscription list of
the shadow list is used as an additional list of addresses that are
allowed to post to the main list.

So in our example postings to <address@hidden> from <address@hidden>
will be accepted. Note that you will still receive postings at
  <address@hidden> *only*.

. The shadow list is *not* for posting, actually shadow list has only
  the -request address.

. Your subscription to the shadow list is completely independent from
your subscription to the main list. You can subscribe and unsubscribe
additional alternative addresses to the shadow list as they come and
go. This does not affect your subscription to the main list, this only
affects your ability to post to the main list from those alternative
  addresses.

. Ok, so __if you have alternative addresses__ that you post from, just
subscribe them to the shadow list by sending a mail message with a
single word "subscribe" (without quotes) in the *subject* to

      <address@hidden>

. Don't forget to unsubscribe expired alternative addresses from the
shadow list. If you are unsubscribing from the main list please
unsubscribe from the shadow list too.

This might sound somewhat tangled but I hope this scheme will make it
more convenient for people with several addresses to post to the lout
mailing list, and still keep the spammers out. If you have any
questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

PS: Can any native English speaker (technical writers preffered (hint,
hint :-)) volunteer to put this instructions as clear and concise
prose so that I can add it to the list web page and subscription and
unsubscription messages that are sent automatically? Please, mail me
if you can offer your help.
