I know, beleive me.

I said this before, and I don't mean it rude: given your concerns about stack
usage outside from tcpip_thread, I guess core locking is just not suited for
your case. I don't see a point in using a timer on all platforms when the
reason for that change is to keep stack usage on application threads low.
There has to be a better solution for that ;-)
