I know this chip. He has

- Interrupt in 8bit mode
- 16K SRAM on board
- lower price

However, he has also

- only available in 5V, not 3.3V, so in today systems, an interface is needed
  (SystemCosts++)
- nobody knows how long realtek will manufacture the chip. Cirrus Logic
  has made a comittment that the CS8900A was especially redesigned to
  3.3V for the embedded market and will be available for long time.
- Realtek needs a special filter transformer (SystemCosts++)
- Cirrus has a larger user base and more free sourcecode available.
- Cirrus has more documentation.

So, for me as a system designer, it is VERY difficult to select the
"right" chip.
