Don't overlook the ASIX AX88796. It is a NE2000
comapable 10/100 chip that will operate at 3/5v
and cost less than $10 (USD). Haven't had the
opportunity to use one yet but they sure look
promising.

sells a development board for the part for about
$40. It comes with a manual & source for using
the part with an AVR procesor. They also have a
similar board for the CS8900 for the same price.
