It's easier for them to put the blame on Lynx than to correctly write HTML.
Their pages are full of errors.

It's because the documents tell Lynx to center the text. Most of the
documents with centered text you'll find use tables, which are not supported
by Lynx yet.

CNN uses lots of tables but The Economist use tables in its menus but not in
the articles, which are displayed left-justified, the default.

No, there isn't. Lynx centers the text when the document tells it to do so.
