The support for wildcarded newsgroup names is a Lynxism, not
in RFC1738. It's implemented as a head or tail match filter to the
reply for a LIST NEWSGROUPS command, i.e., instead of listing everything
returned by the nntp server, it lists only the groups which head or tail
match. Thus if you use nttp://netnews.voicenet.com/comp.infosystems.*
it will skip any newsgroups which don't begin with comp.infosystems.
However, if the groups you want aren't included in the reply for a
LIST NEWSGROUPS command, that won't help.
The formats for news, nntp, snews, newspost, newsreply, snewspost
and snewsreply URLs are explain in the "Supported URLs" section of the
online 'h'elp.
