Did you uncomment the lines?  In the distribution lynx.cfg, the colors
are commented out by default, and you have to activate them by removing
the `#'.  Just a thought.

PS Now I have a reason to advertise my scheme:)

COLOR:0:green:black
COLOR:1:cyan:black
COLOR:2:brown:blue
#COLOR:3:magenta:black
COLOR:4:green:black
COLOR:5:red:black
COLOR:6:blue:yellow   #grey:yellow on the Fujitsu's
COLOR:7:magenta:black

Note Color:3 is left commented out because Lynx currently does not use it.
