i'm not an expert on 386 or DMP, but as no-one else has replied:
get Lynx 2.8 (just released) from  www.slcc.edu/lynx/release/ ,
which expects you to use  configure ,
which may be more intelligent about your system's requirements.
don't hesitate to ask again here if you still can't get things working.
