well, after a lot of generally useful discussion about Javascript
& how far Lynx should try to handle it,
i finally took a look at the Ricoh HTML
& discovered that the problem in fact has nothing to do with Javascript,
but results from apparently invalid  OPTION's  of the form  ../foo ,
which Lynx refuses to recognise.
next step is to look up just what the rules are
& try to remember just what Lynx does/not allow,
but possibly someone else might have a more immediate comment.
